Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

For our third unit this school year, Extra! Extra! Read All About It!, we are investigating the world of media!

Central Idea: Many groups of people work together in different ways to report news.

To learn about this exciting topic, we are reading lots of newspapers, watching some news on TV and even visiting the BBC studios. By the end of this unit, students will have written some news articles themselves and we will also film ourselves reading the news. We will really understand what a journalists and other people in media do.

This unit ties in nicely with our Language work. As we read the novel Holes (by Louis Sachar), we are reporting what we read. We will be writing an expose about the shocking events that take place at Camp Green Lake.

In math we are building on our measurement skills! We are learning different ways to find perimeter and area. So far, everyone is enjoying these challenges.
